House sales down 12 per cent

UK residential transactions in April were 12.1 per cent lower than the same month in 2021 and 3.9 per cent lower than March 2022, according to the latest figures from HMRC. The seasonally adjusted figures relate to transactions on properties worth over £40,000.

HMRC advised that year-on-year figures should be treated with caution due to the temporary extension of the stamp duty holiday announced in the 2021 Budget which saw transaction levels historically high in April 2021.

There were 97,970 residential transactions in April.
